2017 Outlook

Brandon Jennings’ contract expires and he will be a free agent this summer. He certainly will not get the same $8 million-per-year salary. The Achilles injury has slowed him down incredibly and he is probably not looking at a starter’s role anywhere.

Jennings has to prove himself all over again.

That is what he was trying to do in Orlando and it was incredibly inconsistent. On some nights he looks like a quality backup point guard who could still bump up to a starter. On other nights, he looks like he is not quite 100 percent healthy and able to play in the NBA long term.

Where does Jennings land this summer then as a free agent? How much is he worth? Can he recapture his play from before the injury when he was beginning to turn the corner and find some maturity as a point guard and playmaker?

That question is one every team in the league is going to have to answer.

The Magic clearly looked to acquire him for his expiring contract. That does not preclude them from bringing him back next season. But that seems incredibly unlikely. The Magic are likely moving on.

Jennings played decently well, but not overwhelmingly so. Not enough to get many guarantees. The Magic probably still need a backup point guard but Jennings is not likely that option. His shooting is too inconsistent and everything else just did not work out it seemed.
