6) Scott Skiles / Nick Anderson / Dennis Scott (1991-92)

We begin this slideshow with a 32-win Magic team from its pre-Shaq era. Current coach Scott Skiles had gone on from an unheralded expansion pick to becoming a very good guard in an era that was tough for guards to succeed in.

We still remember Skiles’ 30 assist effort (highly suggest watching this video, it is a true passing clinic), and he became a lights-out shooter who nevertheless continued to create plays for his teammates.

Skiles was neither shoot first nor pass first, he was perfectly balanced between the two, and, while he may not be an “all-time NBA great,” he is certainly an all-time Magic great.

Even before he fully realized his potential, fans were enamored with his hustle, something he is sure to impart and force from this current roster.

  • Skiles was fiery. There really is no better word to describe his game. He would leave himself on the floor for the team, and the fact he was doing it for a club that was nowhere near contending made it all the more admirable.

Dennis Scott was the No. 3 overall pick in the 1991 NBA draft, and his shooting ability made him a “can’t miss” prospect coming out of Georgia Tech. Scott played a huge role in revolutionizing the usage of the transition three, something now just commonplace in the NBA. He was not a gifted athlete, and his defensive abilities were questionable at best. But the man could shoot from anywhere in the 407 area code.

Scott spent his entire productive career in Orlando, as did Nick Anderson. Anderson will not be dwelled upon here, because he receives due exposure as we delve further into Orlando’s best “Big 3s.”
