Rebounding

Victor Oladipo is a good rebounding guard, but the potential is there for far more given his athleticism and activity levels.

He grabbed 4.2 boards per game last year but had a total rebound rate of just 7.5 percent. If Oladipo really wants to increase his worth to the Magic, he will take to the glass.

For as good as he was, Oladipo still lingered far behind Chicago Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler, who averaged 5.8 per game (leading all 2-guards).

Among NBA shooting guards, Oladipo ranked No. 10 in rebounds per game, so he is already very good at grabbing them for his position. But the Magic are a poor rebounding team (net -1.7 on the glass per game) overall, and Oladipo can lift his rebounding to the level of an Evan Turner or Tyreke Evans, both of whom average five-plus rebounds.

Victor need only apply himself to reach these marks. He is a good enough athlete that teams will pay for not boxing him out, but he needs to make sure that happens. A modest improvement to 4.9 rebounds per game is not out of the question. Eventually, Oladipo needs to be grabbing five per game, though, just because he can.

Oladipo has a fairly strong body and is lithe and flexible, so it appears he is capable of mixing it up with the big bodies down low. Remember, Dwyane Wade averaged over seven boards per game twice in his career so it is not asking too much to have a team’s premier guard also be a major factor on the glass.
