Jameer Nelson has had plenty of big moments. I mentioned the shot above. He had the great performance in Los Angeles in the 2009 season that not only cemented his All-Star bid, but also cemented the Magic as a championship contender.

As the Magic were coming up, Nelson made some big shots. I remember him burying the Pistons in January 2008. It was a cathartic win since the Pistons had the Magic’s number throughout the 2000s since the first round series we never speak of. Detroit had swept Orlando the year before.

The most memorable game winner in his career though, thanks to YouTube, is his shot against the Nuggets at Amway Center, the first buzzer beater in the new arena.

Look up Jameer Nelson and game winner on YouTube and this comes up.

It is a pretty sweet shot, no doubt about it. And the first buzzer beater in a new arena is pretty special. Nelson just rose up and fired over one of the few starting point guards he can probably do that again (sorry, Ty Lawson).

Nelson was just a fun player to watch. Fan favorite and all. He nearly had a game winner against the Bulls that seemed to revive that Magic season (then regrettably told Derrick Rose he would see him in the second round, but at least the Hawks left him tickets in Atlanta).

Nelson’s 10 years in Orlando are going to be remembered fondly as he may be that fan favorite player from the Magic’s championship run that nobody else around the league gets.

We will always have the memories like this.
