2)Shaquille O’Neal

Shaquille O’Neal somehow went his entire career without winning Defensive Player of the Year, but he made three NBA all-defensive teams. Rebounding is actually a part of defense and O’Neal was a master at getting position to stop second-chance buckets. He ranked in the top-8 in defensive rebounding six times in his career and ranks No. 9 all-time in defensive boards.

O’Neal also finished top-10 in blocks in nine seasons, and ranks No. 9 all-time in blocked shots.

O’Neal ranks No. 35 all-time in defensive rebounding rate, too. O’Neal ranked No. 4 in defensive win shares in the ’93 season while ranking No. 19 all-time.

“Orlando Shaq” was a focused defensive beast, and he is indisputably the best rim protector in Magic history.

O’Neal’s lack of defensive accolades are what hold him back from being No. 1 on this list. There is another player who went beast mode much like O’Neal. And he even took over O’Neal’s nickname, causing one of  the most futile arguments between athletes.
