Free Agency: 5 Bargain Point Guards for Orlando Magic
Brian Roberts
Brian Roberts entered the league as a 27-year old rookie in the 2013 season, and now, at age 29, he should be due to get a decent contract.
Roberts averaged six points and two assists for the Charlotte Hornets last season, but he brings a number of valuable traits which would help the Magic.
One of these is he is a machine at the free-throw line. Roberts shot 94 percent in the 2014 season and hit 89 percent last season.
This value can hardly be overstated on a team that features a horrible shooting Payton at the line. Roberts could be a ball handling option late in game to close it out at the stripe, and he also shoots the three ball pretty well (35 percent over his career).
Roberts’ shooting prowess and ability to keep his turnovers down is what the Magic need though. He averaged less than one turnover per game last season, and the Magic could rely on Roberts to avoid miscues, which would go a long way towards helping the second unit keep the Magic in games.
He made $2.8 million last season and could likely be signed for just over $3 million. That’s about the right price tag for a steady point guard that can knock down the triple.
