A report from a reporter in Israel says former Florida State forward Chris Singleton is set to join the Orlando Magic’s Summer League team in July.

The Orlando Magic have two Summer League teams to fill. Not all of the players are going to make the roster. The Magic will also have plenty to evaluate and prepare for their second year running a D-League team. And, of course, the Magic will want to see how their rookies integrate with lineup stalwarts Elfrid Payton and Aaron Gordon.

At this point, no one seems to be sure how the Magic will split the roster.

It is safe to assume the Magic will have all their key players — Gordon, Payton and the draft picks — on one team so they can play together. Other than that, it could be an interesting free for all of players the Magic want to see playing together and other players who could fight their way onto the roster.

The full roster probably will not be released until after the Draft, but the Magic are reportedly already reaching out.

David Pick, a basketball reporter in Israel, reports former Florida State forward Chris Singleton will play with the Magic in the Summer League:

Singleton spent last year playing for the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s D-League affiliate. He averaged 13.3 points per game although he shot 34.4 percent.

Singleton spent three years in Washington averaging 4.1 points per game and shooting 37.6 percent from the floor.

This is all to say his shot at making the NBA remains something of a long shot. He has the talent, but he has not produced at that level. Still the experience could be good and the Magic might want to see what he can do in Erie.

Among the other players expected to play for the Magic in Summer League are Erie’s Drew Crawford. He told Inside NU in April it is likely he will play for the Magic’s Summer League team. Crawford averaged 16.0 points per game on 48.1 percent shooting and 35.5 percent 3-point shooting on the season.

Crawford was one of four players who received a partial guarantee to participate in the Magic’s training camp before being sent to Erie. The other players — Peyton Siva, Kadeem Batts and Seth Curry — likely will get an invite to the Magic’s Summer League team. Curry though got a NBA call up to Phoenix during the season. It is unclear if he will remain in the Magic program.

Siva surprisingly agreed to the Magic’s deal to come to training camp and spend a year in Erie. It led everyone to speculate the Magic had promised him a more serious look this season. Who knows if that remains true with a new coaching staff preparing to take over.

It also seems safe to say that Erie stalwarts Jason Bohannon and Keith Appling should also get a closer look from the Magic after solid seasons with the Bayhawks last year.

A guy like Singleton though squarely falls in the category of veteran free agent trying to fight his way back into the league. The Magic will surely be looking at a few more of those in Summer League who they think might fit.

With two teams, there are going to be a lot of opportunities to impress the Magic and fight their way into at least a D-League deal if not a training camp invite.
