Orlando Magic Player Evaluations: Kyle O’Quinn
Final Grade
There is no reason not to like O’Quinn. He is personable, a great teammate and friends with many players on the team. He does not mind doing the dirty work on defense or on offense. He generally works hard and plays within himself. He never seems to do more than what he is asked to do.
That is a good quality to have in a player.
For a contract year, though, O’Quinn did not step up to the plate. He did not take ownership of his newfound role and did not expand his game in any significant way. Dewayne Dedmon passed him on the depth chart and seemed to make him expendable.
That is probably not how O’Quinn wanted things to go this season with so much on the line for him personally and professionally.
O’Quinn has a place in this league long term. That is a success in a way for him. But it was a success built on his first two years in the league. Not on last season.
And, more than anything else, O’Quinn may have lost his place on the team. That certainly could not have been part of his goals for the year.
