Orlando Magic Player Evaluations: Ben Gordon
Final Grade
At times, Gordon did contribute. He did spread the floor and make shots and did provide instant offense in some stretches. For the most part, though, Gordon was invisible. He was not as bad as everyone feared, but he did not provide a whole lot.
In the end, Gordon was a veteran whose value was probably seen more behind the scenes — he had to work hard and do something to take advantage of this opportunity in any way — than it was on the court. Gordon can still play, but what you get is going to be inconsistent. And it did not feel like he was in a role that fits where he is at in his career.
The Magic asked too much of Gordon and then more or less ignored him.
This was not necessarily a bad decision. There were other players the Magic surely wanted to feature and Gordon never did anything that would demand minutes over someone else.
The experiment to bring him in for a year helped Gordon show he can still hang some in the league, but it did not help the Magic get wins in 2015. Luckily, it was an experiment that could be short-lived.

Expectations were truly low for Ben Gordon when he came to Orlando. Really if he could contribute anything, it seemed like he would have been viewed as a success.
