Orlando Magic Player Evaluations: Luke Ridnour
Luke Ridnour was brought in to provide stability off the bench at point guard. He did that, but the role he was signed for called for just a bit more.
Luke Ridnour has never carried a ton of expectation on him.
When the Orlando Magic signed him, they were looking for someone solid to play backup point guard, be a leader in the locker room and be willing to play behind younger players. The Magic knew he would not make a ton of mistakes on the floor and not cause any waves. He was not going to make a big impact either, in a lot of ways.
That is exactly what they wanted. If fans never noticed him and never complained about him, he would be doing his job.
Ridnour has had that kind of career. He just is not a player who is going to make a big, big impact. It is just not who he is.
What more would the Magic expect from him than this?
Could they expect anything more?
Perhaps the Magic could have used a more prominent backup point guard. Certainly the second unit lacked some punch offensively and a hold-the-boat guard may not have helped the team win games in the long run. It is hard even to say if Ridnour will get the second year of his deal picked up.
In other words, Ridnour did exactly what was asked for him, but that role they carved out for him may not have been enough.
