Option 3: Mario Hezonja, G/F, Croatia

Pros:

1. Deft three-point shooter

2. ability to cover two positions

3. elite passing forward

Cons:

1. Not physically strong enough for NBA yet

2. not great at creating own shot

3. poor temper control

We have already taken a look at Mario Hezonja here on OMD, and he is an interesting international prospect from Croatia whose upside appears to be as high as a perennial All Star at best.

He is multi-positional, and, viewing clips, he at times appears like an ultra-athletic version of former Magic star Hedo Turkoglu. While initially Hezonja would come off the bench, the chance is there that he becomes a secondary playmaker in the starting lineup in time.

Hezonja also solves the need for a knockdown 3-point shooter. The Magic would have the luxury of bringing both Hezonja and Evan Fournier off the bench, and between the two of them one would be bound to be hitting on most nights.

Orlando desperately needed shooting both in the first and second units last season, and Hezonja would make a guy like Ben Gordon into a distant and forgotten memory very quickly.

As for Hezonja’s infamous temper, one could hope that swearing in Croatian might bail him out on some of the technicals he would otherwise pick up.
