Channing Frye’s first season with the Magic was certainly a disaster. No one seemed to anticipate the team having as many problems defensively with Frye on the floor. And, as Frye freely admitted, his injury at the beginning of the season detracted from him getting into rhythm and getting better chemistry with his new teammates.

It was an inauspicious start and it was something that continued throughout the season.

Frye is a veteran though. He handled demotions to the bench well and remained a positive influence in the locker room — or, at least, he did not cause any problems. For the most part, teams know what Frye can provide and the Magic do too.

It is a somewhat common refrain, but Frye did shoot one of his better percentages from beyond the 3-point line this past season. It was just figuring out how to cover up his defensive shortcomings which remains the issue for the Magic.

Frye is not going anywhere. His value in the NBA is at a little bit of a low right now. The Magic probably value him higher than most teams around the league and teams around the league are probably looking to acquire Frye, if they are trying at any rate, to get him on the cheap.

After just one year, selling him on the cheap seems a bit immature. Frye will get another shot at cracking the rotation, hoping that last year’s season was an aberration.

The Magic have no choice but to ride it out at the moment. That would be the best way to increase his value to trade him. Otherwise they would just be giving up on the initial investment. It probably is not time for that.
