Retrospective: The Top-10 Power Forwards in Orlando Magic History
7. Tony Battie
Tony Battie easily could have been in the center slide, but he played a lot more like a power forward and his most productive minutes came playing alongside Dwight Howard, essentially both players playing interchangeably at the post slots.
Battie played in Orlando from 2004-2009, spending four of his 14 pro seasons with the Magic. He started all 82 games in 2006 while averaging 7.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals/blocks in 27 minutes a night.
Battie was a plus defender and had the size at 6-foot-11 to matchup with any players’ length. The Celtics drafted him fifth overall in 1997, and while he may have never played to the level of a fifth pick, there is something to be said for the fact he stuck around until age 35.
Battie offered a lot as a player, even if his career averages are a paltry six points and five boards.
Battie is currently giving commentary in segments for Fox Sports Florida for Magic broadcasts. He has been doing a great job of providing insight on the games.
