Scott Skiles is an easy tie to the Orlando Magic.

He played his most productive years with the Magic in his long NBA career and remains close with several members of the Magic front office.

His record of success is undeniable too. He has been at three coaching stops and has taken each team to the Playoffs. All this before, somewhat predictably, his hard-driving style wears on his team and he loses them.

It should also be noted Skiles has been out of the first round just twice in his 13 seasons as a head coach. It would seem that Skiles has a ceiling and a floor. The floor is ultimately where the Magic need to be sooner rather than later, but the ceiling could crush the development at an important time for much of the Magic’s young talent.

In other words, Skiles feels like a guy who is a stepping stone coach.

The Magic will undoubtedly be in contact with Skiles (if they have not been already, conflicting reports on that).

And Skiles is experienced enough now and been put in bad situations where he reportedly wants roster and personnel control, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders. If that is the case, Skiles and the Magic better be sure this roster is the one Skiles wants and that they are truly ready to start winning with these pieces.

The rebuild, essentially, would be over. Skiles would be a major part of the vision of the team moving forward.

That might be a risk the Magic are willing to take at this stage if they believe Skiles is their guy.
