The Magic fell to the Celtics 95-88, who stood out in this slugfest?

The Orlando Magic had another large fourth-quarter lead and a chance to put the game away. And, yet again, the Magic gave up the lead and let a player put up a season-best game.

Evan Turner scored 16 points in the fourth quarter and the Magic fell apart offensively as the Celtics erased the deficit and took a 95-88 win at TD Garden on Friday.

It was deja vu all over again, unfortunately.

Elfrid Payton definitely would have gotten an A tonight.

Payton attacked the rim at will and got great looks for himself and his teammates. Unfortunately for Elfrid, quite a few of those great looks tonight did not result in points thanks to his free throw shooting.

What was really strange about Payton’s game tonight is that he seemed extremely confident in his jumper. I counted about five jump shots which off the top of my head has to be a season high in one game for him.

Elfrid did manage to convert on two of his three 3-point attempts tonight.

On the defensive end Payton did a solid job of containing Marcus Smart but struggled to keep Phil Pressey under control. All in all it was a mostly encouraging night for the rookie.

If his vast amount of missed free throws were not so crucial to Orlando’s loss Elfrid Payton definitely would have gotten an A tonight.

Aaron Gordon managed to score 11 points and snag eight rebounds in less than 20 minutes of playing time.

Gordon has struggled recently with his confidence on offense but tonight that was not the case. Gordon shot wide open jumpers without hesitation and the results were positive.

On the defensive end, Aaron Gordon continues to impress with his IQ. Gordon seems to make most of his rotations and is possibly the most fundamentally sound rookie defender I have ever seen. Gordon took minutes from Channing Frye tonight, one has to wonder if that will continue as the season winds to a close.

Victor Oladipo.

Victor struggled from everywhere on the floor and was called for charging three times. On the defensive end, Victor did fine in isolation but off the ball he continued to softly sink into the paint which created quite a few open looks for Celtics shooters.

Just a bad night for Victor Oladipo.

Nikola Vucevic looked pretty poor tonight.

Tyler Zeller kept Vucevic from getting good post position and it seemed to frustrate him as he started camping away from the basket. Orlando’s offense seemed to stagnate as they looked to feed an ineffective Vucevic.

On the defensive end, Vucevic played fairly well up until the fourth quarter. Orlando’s scheme seemed to change in the fourth as they appeared to switch on everything. This did not bode well for Vucevic as the Celtics repeatedly attacked him with a lot of success.

The Celtics played like a team that was desperate for a win tonight. Evan Turner went absolutely bananas and reminded you why he got drafted second overall. Phil Pressey obliterated Orlando’s defense and Kelly Olynk managed to pull Orlando players away from the paint thanks to his accuracy from deep. The Celtics wanted revenge and they got it.
