The Celtics made a not-so-minor here move as they continue that weird balance of staying in the Eastern Conference playoff race and moving down the standings toward Lottery irrelevancy. Brad Stevens continues to work his coaching mastery.

Thomas is a serious offensive weapon. He is not afraid to shoot it and shoot it often. Almost to gunner extent. That could make his presence in Boston more palatable. Or it might not. Who knows how long the Celtics might want to keep him.

Thomas is going to keep the Celtics in games. He already has, staring down his former teammates in Boston’s win at Phoenix. The Celtics are 2-1 in Thomas’ short tenure in Boston.

Is this sustainable? Is this roster sustainable for Boston?

They are too mediocre right now to be much of anything. Like the Magic, the Celtics are still looking for a star.

Boston’s future is so incredibly murky right now. The team is playing too well to be tanking yet both Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green are gone. Brad Stevens has done an incredible coaching job with this young roster. It is hard to say exactly what their identity is other than they execute and play hard.

It will be scary when Boston actually amasses top-level talent again.
