This is a great question and I wanted to be sure to answer it because I think part of this enterprise is to help young writers (go ahead and click on that Write for Us button at the top if you are interested!).

I have been writing since I was in elementary school. I figured if I could not play basketball, I might as well write about it. I am an obsessive Magic fan and wanted to know everything about this team. I watched tons of SportsCenter in the mornings, read Brian Schmitz, Tim Povtak and L.C. Johnson (going wayyy back there!) in the Orlando Sentinel every morning.

I really pursued journalism in high school. I worked for the Orlando Sentinel covering high school football while I was in high school myself and went to Northwestern University (you will see me post a stray Wildcats tweet here or there when I forget to switch my Twitter account on TweetDeck).

The Magic were always my passion as I worked to become a professional reporter. I felt I needed an outlet.

So I started just writing my stray thoughts on the Magic on a Bloggr I started — The Curse of the Big Aristotle (it’s still up!). It was more of a place to let it blurt, as my middle school writing teacher would say. I had these thoughts in my mind and I wanted to get them on paper. If people wanted to read it fine.

This started more seriously around the time the Magic were making the Finals run which made Magic conversations a lot more exciting and led to the explosion of Orlando Pinstriped Post (nee Third Quarter Collapse) and this site. I was invited to join Orlando Magic Daily in 2010, and the rest is history.

;If you are looking for advice to get going: write. Write anywhere and everywhere you can. I really do believe this space can be a great place to develop your voice and your craft. Do not be afraid to submit and put yourself out there. There are amazing opportunities out there.
