Magic Getting Frye-d on Defense?
By Zach Palmer
First Quarter
10:41: Jason Smith misses wide open 20 foot jumper. Channing Frye makes no effort to contest the shot.
10:34: Knicks run a PnR, Frye watches the ball when it appears that he is supposed to close off the baseline. Smith goes baseline and converts a reverse layup.
9:28: Frye lazily picks up Lou Amundson in transition after a made basket. The Knicks pass it to Amundson who Frye has not bodied up well so Frye attempts a steal. Frye misses the steal and Amundson makes an easy backdoor pass to Melo for a layup (in fairness, Devyn Marble is caught a bit flat footed as Anthony makes his cut to the basket while the ball is in the air).
8:56: Knicks run PnR with Jose Calderon and Jason Smith. Frye switches onto Calderon. Calderon hits a contested jumper over Frye.
8:33: Knicks run PnP with Carmelo Anthony and Amundson. Marble goes under the screen and Frye does not step up to contest the jumper. Melo missed an open jumper with a late contest by a recovering Marble.
7:45: Knicks run a PnP with Calderon and Smith. Nikola Vucevic and Elfrid Payton attempt to trap Calderon. Frye floats into the middle of the paint. Reacts late to the pop by Smith, and Smith sinks the semi-contested jumper.
7:13: Langston Galloway runs PnR with Amundson. Oladipo and Vucevic attempt to trap. Galloway hits a rolling Amundon. Frye rotates well and contests shot. The shot is no good.
