With LeBron James leaving Miami, Pat Riley may be looking for a more expensive point guard to shoulder more responsibility. This paves the way for the Magic to swoop in and snag a young point guard with championship experience, both in college and the NBA. Chalmers has spent time with the superstar big three, and may have some knowledge to pass down to Orlando’s younger guards. He fits well into Hennigan’s scheme as he could provide defense and three-point shooting off the bench, or possibly even in a starting role while Payton is still developing.

The question is; would Chalmers be willing to go from a contender to a rebuilding team while accepting a potentially diminished role at the same time. For this reason the Magic may be stuck overpaying for his services, but a reasonable deal for the 28-year-old who posted 9.8 points and 4.9 assists per game last year would be three-years and $20 million with a team option for the third year.
