With both Nelson and Afflalo gone, so is Orlando’s leadership. Assistant GM Scott Perry has been a vital factor in bringing in former Detroit Pistons, and Chauncey Billups could be the next on the list. The Colorado product has career numbers of 15.2 points and 5.4 assists per game. With 17 years of experience under his belt, Billups has built a reputation for hitting big shots, hence his nickname “Mr. Big Shot.” He would provide a strong veteran presence in a very young locker room while also pitching in on the hardwood.

Much like Jason Maxiell a year ago, Billups could bring a sense of toughness to this team. His best years may be behind him, but he still has a few good ones left and could serve as a great mentor to Elfrid Payton. Billup’s services should be available for a deal similar to Ben Gordon, two-years and $9 million with the second year being a team option. He brings championship experience to a young squad, and can also be a valuable asset on the trade market for contending teams looking to fill a role without committing long-term money.
