The Orlando Magic are searching. Searching for a lot. That is the big takeaway from this week’s relatively light schedule.

That new season smell has begun to wear off now.

The Orlando Magic are sitting at 6-8, having let a couple of chances to get above .500 get away. There was a chance there to literally and tangibly turn a corner.

Everything remains elusive for this team. They need to find consistency before achieving any of these tangible goals they have. That consistency might be forced upon them with a shakeup to the lineup in the very near future.

The season has indeed lost some of its new season smell.

Now the Magic enter their first critical phase of the season. They have three home games left this month following Monday’s 117-103 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, then they hit the road. Those three games are against Eastern Conference competitors. That is, if the Magic are still aiming their sights on the Playoffs.

The Magic do not have time to think about that. Orlando has to focus on itself and get itself in order. It has to find consistency and has to find out its true identity.

Once the team gets there, then maybe we can talk about March and April.

November and December are still difficult to navigate through. The Magic will have to get their ship in order before moving forward and onward. And right now, Scott Skiles is searching desperately.
