Conclusion

The Orlando Magic have already made a trade in February and they will be extremely active in the days leading up to the trade deadline. The Magic will be heavily involved in discussions, but may not feel the same pressure. They will test the market and make a decision if there is a deal that makes sense.

The question now is who is next to go and what are the Magic going after?

The Magic are still trying to compete this season and, as a result, the team is not going to be looking for picks and salary cap relief necessarily. The Magic will be looking to acquire young players who have the potential to blossom in Orlando and who are under contract for at least two more years, such as Terrence Ross.

It seems like the Magic will be focusing on trying to upgrade the point guard position via trade and sticking with Payton as their backup point guard. There is a possibility the Magic could end up simply moving Payton, but that is highly unlikely unless a trade offer comes through they cannot refuse.

Rob Hennigan will have some tough decision to make in the upcoming days. The only ask from Magic fans is that this team does not make a panic move that affects this team long-term. It is to be expected that the Magic have learned from their panic moves in the past.

With the playoffs seeming more like a wish than a goal at this point, the Magic should focus on improving the balance on the roster and acquiring players and picks that can help rebuild this roster quickly this upcoming offseason.

The Magic are in a situation in which they are able to quickly rebuild the roster if the right moves are made and find themselves competing for a playoff seed in the Eastern Conference next season.
