The value comparison

Next, in order to better assess Frye’s value, I looked at the annual salaries of each of the most similar players. Frye would ideally be earning in the range of these players.

Player Salary
Channing Frye $8,193,029
Thabo Sefolosha $4,000,000
Kyle Anderson $1,142,880
Brandon Rush $1,270,964
Jared Dudley $4,375,000
Patrick Beverley $6,486,486
Wesley Johnson $1,100,602
James Johnson $2,500,000
Anthony Tolliver $3,000,000
Larry Nance, Jr. $1,155,600

Frye makes significantly more money this year than all of these guys, and even makes more than twice what his most similar comparison, Thabo Sefolosha, makes.

This is evidence that perhaps Frye may be overpaid.

The average salary of these players is about $2.8 million. Weighing the similar players more, his ideal salary range based on his production is around $2.6 million.

Since his relative monetary value is significantly lower than his actual current contract, it can be inferred Frye was paid more than he should have been, even when evaluating him in an overall superior season to last year.
