Retrospective: Ranking the Orlando Magic’s Top “Big 3s”
5) Victor Oladipo / Tobias Harris / Nikola Vucevic (2014-Present)
It may seem confusing to Magic fans to contemplate the trio off its 25-win current team finds its way into this slideshow. But it does, and it is based entirely on the fact this team is very top-heavy in talent.
Fans league-wide are intrigued by this current nucleus, and it is easy to see why given it has hardly begun to scratch the surface of what it may become.
The fact the talent is there right now was apparent in our top-10 rankings of each position, as Victor Oladipo, Tobias Harris and Nikola Vucevic all managed to rank high at their respective positions. Oladipo, in particular, is becoming one of the best two-way guards in the league, and fans that properly value defense see his value as the potential star he is.
Tobias Harris is mostly a volume scorer, but in serving that role, he does do it well.
The next step for both Harris and Vucevic is to become better defenders, and as that happens this team will win more games. Having a good, competent coach in Scott Skiles should help this “Big 3” begin to realize its full potential.
So while it may seem strange for a 25-win team to receive so much credit, it was mostly poor on the basis of its lack of continuity and sheer lack of depth. The team did not really falter on the talents of Oladipo, Harris and Vucevic. All three progressed and had good seasons, and the potential of this core is exciting enough to warrant its place here at No. 5 in Magic history.
