Thursday was my birthday! As my gift to you, my loyal readers, I decided to open things up for a Twitter mailbag! I will hopefully be doing this quasi-regularly since I get a lot of questions on Twitter. So drop me a line. Twitter not your thing? E-mail me at email@example.com. Now let’s dive into […]
If you have read my writing and coverage of the Draft, you can see that I have a healthy skepticism of the Magic’s Draft and the players they got. Independently, they all should become decent NBA players. Aaron Gordon is a bundle of athleticism and drive to get better. But he is young and far […]

The Magic have waived long-time point guard Jameer Nelson, the team announced Monday, ending his 10-year career with the Magic. Nelson became a fan favorite for his hard work, overcoming his physical limitations to become an All Star in 2009 and cementing himself as a starter, and his friendliness to fans and teammates. Nelson was […]
Summer League starts Saturday at Amway Center. Eight NBA teams will send their squads of rookies, young players and free agents for a week of games. The Magic unveiled their roster Tuesday and it features some familiar names: Player Ht. Wt. Last Team Kadeem Batts 6-9 245 Providence (NCAA) Matt Bouldin 6-5 224 Ft. Wayne […]
“Indiana Pacers wing Lance Stephenson is only 23 years old and is one of the most talented players in this free-agency class, but the Magic will not pursue him, according to the source with knowledge of the Magic’s plans. Stephenson had off-the-court problems early in his career.”
This is not really news as many have suspected the Magic would not pursue the 23-year-old guard from the Pacers. Orlando is expected to have somewhere between $15-17 million of cap room to play with if the team chooses.
“Orlando Magic — Projected Cap Room: $17,129,899
The Magic waiving Jameer Nelson has put them in position to maybe wriggle free enough cap room to sign a big-name free agent. Of course, the issue is most of the team’s cap space is going to players not currently on the roster — $18.4 million owed to Nelson, Glen Davis and Al Harrington. That means this is a young roster with little to offer a player looking to win now.”
I wrote a mega free agency preview with a focus on who could sign LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony over at Crossover Chronicles. Clearly the Magic are not quite ready to sign a big-name free agent. But that copious amount of cap room sure looks nice as free agency starts.
It is to be expected that the former coaches of Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton would be signing the praises of their former charges. The praise though from Arizona coach Sean Miller and United States U19 coach Billy Donovan were effusive. Both believe Gordon and Payton will help set a cultural tone for the Magic […]
“The Pistons’ other free agents — Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva — are not expected to return. Stuckey will receive interest — expect the Orlando Magic to speak with the veteran combo guard. The market for Villanueva isn’t clear.”
