Orlando Magic Daily Mailbag Vol. 2: Assessing value

The Magic are a few games into their 26th season with a ton of questions left to answer. The deadline for extensions passed, but many of you in the last few weeks had questions about Tobias Harris and Nikola Vucevic and their overall value to the franchise. As always, well maybe always is the wrong […]

Defense takes time in early season

The Magic seemed set on building a defensive minded team with the way they have drafted the last few years — Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton — and the overall direction the franchise seems to want to take. Even last season, the Magic’s defense was probably better than their record might indicate — […]

1) Tobias Harris is heading into this home opener uncertain whether Orlando will be his long-term home, Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel writes. It is looking more and more like Harris will hit unrestricted free agency.

2) I joined Tuck & O’Neill on Sports Talk Florida yesterday to break down the Magic’s season opening loss and to take a look at the beginning of the season.

3) The tape did not lie after Tuesday’s game, and the Magic are focused on controlling the glass better in Thursday’s game, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel writes.

4) Like the Magic, defense was a concern for the Wizards in their opening loss to the Heat last night in Miami, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post writes.

5) The Wizards play-by-play announcer called out the Heat for using canned fan noise.

Hosting my own SIRIUSXM show is an honor and something that makes my first NBA season even more special.  This year will be full of a lot of firsts and I can’t wait to give the fans a behind-the-scenes look at my new world both on and off the court. I have some pretty high goals set for myself and my team this year and I’m excited to take the listeners along for the ride.”

Aaron Gordon on being featured on SiriusXM’s Year One on SiriusXM NBA Radio (channel 86)

This is the second year the channel is doing its Year One show. Last year, Portland’s C.J. McCollum shared his experience with the SiriusXM crew.

Gordon will be giving weekly reports on his rookie season with co-host Justin Termine. His first show will be Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.

It looks like Tobias Harris will become a restricted free agent

Things can always change at the 11th hour. Deadlines have a funny way of doing that. As things stand now, though, Tobias Harris seems set to hit restricted free agency as neither side appears close to agreeing to a contract extension. The latest report comes from Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders, who reports Harris’ camp […]

Power Rankings Roundup: Magic start season near the bottom

Victor Oladipo‘s injury has kind of soured the beginning of the season for the Magic. Orlando is down one of its best players and is a team that cannot afford to be down those kinds of players. The Magic are limited in their potential scorers and creators offensively. Add in being down Channing Frye, and […]

Magic caught in the Pelicans’ splash zone

One day, not so long ago, Ryan Anderson was crushing teams’ spirits in a Magic uniform. Some day soon, Channing Frye could be used in the same way in pick and pops to burn teams with the 3-pointer, making teams stick to the perimeter and opening things up in the paint and driving lanes. That […]
