Five things to watch in Magic’s first home preseason game

The number one question I have gotten before the first three preseason games is a simple one: Is the game on TV? Wednesday, we can finally answer: Yes. Everyone will get a chance to watch the Magic on their televisions. If you are in the Orlando area you can attend the game at Amway Center […]

I said I would be trying to do these every few weeks, and I was not lying!

We are at the halfway point of the preseason (almost) and it seems like high time for a mailbag. So send me your Magic questions, thoughts and curiosities. I would love to hear from you!

You can reach me by responding on Twitter at @OMagicDaily or e-mail me your questions at I will try to sort through the mailbag and answer your questions by the middle of next week. So until then. . . send me your questions!

The cliches, and an identity emerge despite Magic loss

The preseason is not a time to worry too much about wins and losses. It is not a time to freak out too much about late-game execution. There are funky lineups out there and lots of experimenting going on. Jannero Pargo scored 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting in the final quarter and Al Jefferson was […]

Pace the early focus for Magic

It was easy to look at the Magic’s young roster and predict pace would be an important part of the team’s offense. The media (yes, I am looking at me) pegged the team already as one that would get up and down the floor and try to run at every opportunity. With guards like Victor […]

Magic season is right around the corner and single game tickets for the first half of the season (through Jan. 3) went on sale Friday. Three thoughts after the Magic’s 96-93 win over the Pacers

The Magic improved to 2-0 in the preseason with another road with with plenty of positives to go along with a few things the team needs to improve on. That is what you would expect in the second preseason game. A 99-96 win over the Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday saw the Magic […]

Dwight Howard’s return one of the top 5 most expensive games on the Magic schedule

The Orlando Magic have been in full-blown rebuilding mode ever since trading franchise cornerstone Dwight Howard away. They still seem to be putting the finishing touches on their climb up, but the 2014-15 season could finally begin to yield some positive results. Orlando has a ton of exciting young talent, including 2013 first round pick […]

ESPN ignores Magic in Magic-Heat highlights?

When we watched the Magic defeat the Heat in overtime we saw a whole lot of this:

Right? Fair highlights of players on both teams with the Magic pulling it out in the end.

Well, apparently those who wanted Magic news on ESPN’s SportsCenter did not see much Magic. From Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel:

If that wasn’t enough negativity, there was this diss by ESPN (anchors John Buccigross and Jay Harris were on the set) on Tuesday night after the Magic beat the Miami Heat in a preseason overtime game.

The network only showed highlights by the Heat, who were playing at home for the first time without LeBron James.

Buccigross: “Brother can’t get a Magic highlight?”

Harris: “No, no, no.”

Send your letters of anger to Bristol, Connecticut.

Harris, seconds later: “I bet everybody in Orlando is going to be mad at me.”

Buccigross: “And they should be. That’s bad journalism.”

5 takeaways from Magic-Heat

So the Magic won 108-101 in overtime over the Heat last night in the preseason. That is not what is important though. The scores — and really stats — do not matter so much in the preseason. What we want to know at this point is what does this mean for the bigger picture. Here […]

Magic hold on for win, learn a lot more

The biggest learning experience for the Magic in their first preseason game did not come in giving up a seven-point lead with three minutes to play. It did not come from Andrew Nicholson cutting baseline and popping open for a 15-foot jumper to send the game to overtime. Nor did it come from the Magic […]
