Be on the look out for Mag_c downtown

It is not quite replacing the ‘a’ with a star — which the M☆gic need to do with their logo IMMEDIATELY — but the Magic will be helping fans and engaging with fans in a new way in preparation for the season. Matthew Broffman of Bungalower reports the Magic will be installing a 6.5-feet-tall, 28-feet-wide […]

How do we build up atmosphere at Amway Center?

Orlando City’s final USL Pro season came to a disheartening and disappointing end Saturday night as the eighth-seeded Harrisburg City Islanders upset the regular season champions and ended a long-standing home unbeaten streak that spans the entire 2013 season at Disney’s Wide World of Sports and much of the 2012 season at the Citrus Bowl. Orlando […]

Evan Fournier, France win bronze medal at FIBA World Cup

Evan Fournier played in only 16 minutes, scoring four points off four free throws and missing all four of his shots.

That is probably not what he will remember from this game or from this tournament. France defeated Lithuania 95-93 to secure the bronze medal. This game was all about Boris Diaw, who scored 15 points, Nicolas Batum, who had 27 points, and about France’s 31-22 fourth quarter. Before the third quarter it looked like Jonas Valanciunas and Lithuania would pull away and secure the medal.

France though just appears to have Lithuania’s number.

Les Bleus defeated Lithuania in last summer’s Eurobasket final.

We are officially in the deadest part of the season as everyone awaits the beginning of training camp at the end of the month. We really need something to talk about. Adonal Foyle on rebuilding

Photo via Getty Images

I think that the folks who play or have played the game have a different perspective on this than people who don’t or haven’t. Now I don’t want to speak for an organization that I’m not involved in, but I’d say that in my experience, people who believe that somehow you’re going to get the next Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, or Tim Duncan from the draft are the teams that usually wait for a very long time at the bottom of the ladder. There are numerous opportunities in basketball to create teams that are successful, and you have to involve all of the matrix, every option and possibility that you have to take the team to the next level. If you believe that you’re just going to wait it out through the draft, I just think that’s not the way to do it coming from someone who has played this game. There are too many players that may or may not pan out– you have to use the whole plethora of resources available to you to help rebuild a franchise.”

–Former Magic center Adonal Foyle as told to Jake Smith of Orlando Magic Stuff

Be sure to read the full interview with Foyle. He touches on how Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith built a culture that led to the Magic’s meteoric rise and his experience as a member of the front office during Dwight Howard’s final year.

Chauncey Billups, greatest Magic killer, retires

When the Magic acquired Chauncey Billups in February 2000, he was hurt. There was no chance he was ever going to suit up in a Magic uniform. Not a chance. That was the Heart and Hustle year. The Magic just wanted to clear cap and Billups was nothing more than an expiring contract. Orlando shipped […]

Zoran Dragic interested in Magic?

Slovenian star forward Zoran Dragic is eyeing a move to the NBA, the league where his brother Goran Dragic is a burgeoning star with the Suns. Dragic has a October 5 buyout deadline with Unicaja Malaga and, according Sham Charania of Real GM, has four serious suitors. Those would be the Spurs, the Heat, the […]

ESPN: Magic’s future dimmer

Every so often, ESPN comes out with their Future Power Rankings. They empanel a few of their writers to assess the team’s current state, but also its management, drafting and its future. This is where Magic fans should, if everything has gone right, see a bright future for the Magic. Entering the 2015 season though, […]

The Magic have made a new addition to their coaching staff Tuesday, naming Jay Hernandez as an assistant coach of player development. “We are extremely excited to add Jay (Hernandez) and his family to the Orlando Magic,” coach Jacque Vaughn said in a press release.  “Jay will bring a tireless work ethic and dedication to development […]

Basketball Insiders previews Magic season

This is the season where we should be able to form a much better understanding over whether the people calling the shots in Orlando really know what they’re doing. There have been some positive things that have happened over the course of the last two years, even though there isn’t many wins to show for it. If a major jump toward night in and night out competitiveness isn’t made this season, it’s time to evaluate whether the right head coach and general manager are in place to see this rebuilding project through to where it needs to go. On the court, the spotlight is going to be firmly on Tobias Harris and Nikola Vucevic, who are coming up on the end of their rookie contracts. They’re going to want a lot of money in order to sign an extension early, but Magic ownership is going to be less inclined to open up their checkbook if they don’t see the playoffs in sight for 2015-2016. Their division is loaded this season, so anything more than a last place finish is going to be a very encouraging sign about the future. Even if they do end up in the cellar again, though, as long as there’s significant improvement, that’s all that matters.”

Yannis Koutroupis of Basketball Insiders

The crew over at Basketball Insiders has the Magic winning anywhere from 22-31 wins. So, that should tell you how difficult it is to call what this team can do this year. Three more weeks until training camp opens!

New addition to the Video Vault!

Yes, it is the dead time of the season. But I am always happy to add to the Video Vault.

What is the Video Vault? It is a fun part of the site where we cull YouTube and the Internet for any and every Magic game video we can find for your enjoyment.

The latest edition is above comes to us from Adam Papageorgiou of Orlando Magic Greek and is a classic March 1995 matchup between the Magic and the Bulls shortly after Michael Jordan made his return to the league. Enjoy!

Be sure to check out the other videos from the 1994-95 season in the Vault!
