Preseason stats should be taken with a grain of salt. But the Orlando Magic did reveal things to work on and some things they excelled at in the preseason.

The Orlando Magic concluded the preseason on Thursday night with an incredible come-from-behind victory against the New Orleans Pelicans at Amway Center. The win was only the second one for the Magic in preseason action, giving the team a 2-5 record.

After seven preseason games it is obvious the Magic still need more time to get acclimated on offense and to solidify their defense. There were some good stretches during the preseason for the Magic. But there were also some moments that made this team look like a team that will not be able to contend in the Eastern Conference.

Consistency on both ends of the floor will be extremely important for the Magic heading into the regular season, especially on the defensive end.

In order for this team to reach the Playoffs, they will need to be a top defensive team in the Eastern Conference. The Magic were constructed over the summer to be a top defensive team, so if that fails, so will the hopes of making the Playoffs.

While wins and losses do not matter in preseason, these games give us a chance to get an early look at what they team may look like in the regular season and also allow us to evaluate some of the team’s strengths and weaknesses so far

So what did we learn about the Magic during the preseason? What are the areas of concern and the areas to be excited about as we get ready to start a new season of Magic basketball?

While it should all be taken with a grain of salt, here is what we learned from looking at the preseason stats.
