The Orlando Magic closed their preseason with a pedestrian 86-76 win over the Memphis Grizzlies that showed plenty of positives from the bench.

The Orlando Magic closed out their preseason with an 86-76 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, playing without many of their main players and starters. It was not a game where the Magic could learn a whole lot about where they are and their readiness for the season.

The Magic will have to play ready or not Wednesday when the Washington Wizards come to town for the season opener.

Still, the game showed the Magic can look very good when they are dialed in and that they still need to have a certain level of intensity for the full 48 minutes.

The Magic took control in the first quarter with the starters dominating play on both ends against the Grizzlies largely bench set. They stifled the Grizzlies, holding them to 32.9 percent shooting and 5-for-23 shooting from beyond the arc.

Orlando had some lulls. The game bogged down as a preseason game sometimes does. The Magic’s plans to play their starters more normal minutes ended when the Grizzlies benched their players.

There were still some very solid performances.
