The Magic’s Summer League kicked off with a win Saturday against the 76ers thanks to a strong performance from Victor Oladipo and a pretty strong and solid defense.
Orlando has the day off Sunday and will return to action Monday at 5 p.m. against Houston’s squad.
In the meantime, Summer League chugs along for its second day today [Sunday] with three games. One of the key storylines I am watching (I list plenty others over at Crossover Chronicles) is the play of sophomores like Victor Oladipo:
The Magic are a young team. That has been the case for the last three years. But now they have dumped Arron Afflalo and Jameer Nelson. The leadership responsibilities have clearly been turned over to the young guys. Victor Oladipo will be relied on a whole lot more on both ends of the floor.
Oladipo is one of the sophomore players that will be looked upon to step up and show some of that improvement and consistency throughout the week. He will obviously get a lot more possessions this year — his usage rate was a robust 24.4 percent last year — and he will have to be more efficient with them too.
Oladipo has already turned in a strong showing in his first game. He will likely play one, maybe two, more games before shutting it down for these Summer League games. He looked really poised one game in and was pretty clearly the best player for the Magic, and perhaps, on the floor in that first game Saturday.
Be sure to read my other storylines to watch.
