Magic Wheels reach NWBA Semis

The Magic usually reserve one halftime show each year for a wheelchair basketball exhibition. The “Magic Wheels” have long been one of the best wheelchair basketball teams in the country and they are proving it once again this season.

The Magic Wheels, a wheelchair basketball team that is sponsored by the Magic including receiving Magic jerseys with their names and everything on them, played in the semifinals of the NWBA National Championship in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday. They were set to square off against the Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks. Yes, many NBA teams sponsor wheelchair basketball squads.

The Dallas Wheelchair Mavericks are the four-time defending champions and defeated the Magic Wheels to set up a match with the New York Rollin’ Knicks. The Magic Wheels squared off against the Milwaukee Wheelchair Bucks on Saturday evening for third place. The championship game is set for 12:30 p.m. today in Louisville.

In either case, the incredible service that sports can provide to those with the most difficult injuries is simply inspiring. These guys are incredible athletes and incredibly competitive. It is great to see these guys playing at the highest level available to them.
