“They want a point guard. They experimented with Victor Oladipo there, but preferably they get a young player that is more of a true point. Exum and Marcus Smart are the guys for them. They would’ve taken Smart No. 2 last year, but I think Exum has moved ahead. Lakers also really like Exum. So do the Jazz and Bucks.”

Without doubt, the Magic’s situation at point guard is somewhat precarious. Many expect the Magic to part ways with Jameer Nelson this summer — his contract is guaranteed for only $2 million becoming fully guaranteed for the full $8 million on July 15 according to ShamSports — and the reviews of Victor Oladipo playing point guard were extremely mixed.
While the experiment was worth it for Oladipo to gain some of those playmaking skills, his longterm future is likely off the ball at shooting guard where he can be more of a slasher and use his quickness to get himself to the basket.
Most mock drafts at this point have the Magic taking either Dante Exum or Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart with the first pick, or if not them, then taking Tyler Ennis of Syracuse with their second lottery pick.
