Magic core finish Summer League strong

On the final day of Summer League, the Magic are platooning everyone they can and trying to fight hard one last day. And their core is leading the way.

Elfrid Payton filled the stat sheet again with 18 points and eight assists. Victor Oladipo was solid with 22 points on 7-for-17 shooting. And Aaron Gordon has had his best offensive game with 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting, finding his offense on pick and rolls and cuts to the rim.

The efficient offensive performance led to a 96-87 win in the Summer League finale.

Score Time Off. Rtg. eFG% O.Reb.% TO% FTR
Orlando 96 Pace: 83.0 115.7 54.5 18.4 10.0 51.5
Detroit 87 Final 105.9 52.3 25.0 16.6 35.4

The Magic’s defense was very solid once again despite a lack of size with Romero Osby and Dewayne Dedmon sitting out this finale. It was Orlando’s best effort probably since the win over Houston on Monday.

With Romero Osby and Dewayne Dedmon out with injuries and several other players headed to Las Vegas to play in the NBA’s Summer League there, Orlando had only eight players. That has moved Aaron Gordon to the power forward position and sometimes the center position for parts of the game.

But they played valiantly and hard despite the lack of size, making it up for it with steals and defense.
