Magic fall to Grizzlies

The Magic lost their first Summer League game of the season 80-73 on Tuesday at Amway Center.

Orlando struggled to get a consistent offensive effort with guards Victor Oladipo and Kim English struggling to put the ball in the basket and score. The Grizzlies defense was tenacious, forcing Magic ballhandlers into traps and preventing the easy baskets and smooth offensive movement we have seen the last two days.

The Magic were much more lethargic and out of sync today then they have been the first two games of the week. The effort is there, just not the energy and attention to detail from the last two days. Maybe a long week of practice is catching up to them. Memphis has controlled the pace and tempo most of the way after Orlando jumped out to an early lead.

Score Time Off. Rtg. eFG% O.Reb.% TO% FTR
Orlando 73 Final 95.7 49.0 19.2 20.9 53.9
Memphis 80 Pace: 77.9 102.7 45.3 40.6 16.5 42.2

Orlando got a solid performance from rookie Elfrid Payton on the offensive end as he has continued to look patient and comfortable finding the right moments to attack. He exploded to the rim and found some nice passes in the first half. He has scored six points and dished out three assists.

For the Magic, Dewayne Dedmon was the high scorer with 13 points while Cameron Jones scored 10. Jones looked really active in this one as he has driven the lane and made his jump shots. He could be an interesting pick up for the D-League team if the Magic want to try to keep him around. Devyn Marble has also continued his torrid shooting pace.

Orlando built a double-digit lead at one point by forcing turnovers with their active hands and steals. This has been a hallmark for the team all week. The Grizzlies though chipped away at the lead by drawing fouls and getting to the line more.

Oladipo struggled to find his shot, making just four of his 12 field goal attempts for 11 points to go with seven rebounds.
