Magic defeat Rockets in 2nd SL game

The Magic have put on a suffocating defensive display throughout the first half or so of the game.

Score Time Off. Rtg. eFG% O.Reb.% TO% FTR
Houston 69 Final 80.9 36.0 20.0 14.8 41.2
Orlando 87 Pace: 83.6 104.0 51.5 33.3 16.9 47.7

Orlando held Houston to 3-for-18 shooting in the first quarter and were in sync defensively. The Rockets found little space to create offensively with Dewayne Dedmon and Vernon Macklin providing some nice presence inside and the Magic’s perimeter defense doing a good job rotating and cutting off driving lanes. The help defense is there too as this looks like a defense of a team that is more than just a Summer League squad.

It definitely waned as the game went on, but the Magic built their lead big enough to hold off any run at their lead.

Elfrid Payton recovered from a rough first outing, showing a lot more patience on the pick and roll and attacking the paint more rather than succumbing to the traps. He finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and nine assists for the Magic. Aaron Gordon had nine points.

It has been an oddly exciting team effort from the Magic’s team for a Summer League game.

Victor Oladipo is sitting out today’s game.
