According to ShamSports.com, Jameer Nelson’s contract is guaranteed for only $2 million with the rest becoming guaranteed on July 15. There are serious questions at this point whether Nelson remains on the roster past that date and begins his 11th season in Orlando.
Nelson struggled toward the end of the season, averaging 10.5 points per game on 45.8 percent effective field goal percentage in March and April. He still played 28.7 minutes per game in the final two months of the season. There was the sense that he was taking minutes away from some of the younger players before he ultimately missed the final few games with an injury.
To remain with the Magic, Nelson would have to further accept a role as a mentor and possibly be open to coming off the bench. Many expect the Magic to target a point guard in the Draft (fans certainly want that).
We will have to wait and see. July 15 is a long way away.
