Magic play-by-play broadcaster David Steele rarely misses his day job broadcasting Magic games.
This Saturday (and likely Friday), he will not be on the air on FOX Sports Florida. And he will have a good reason.
Steele will broadcast Florida’s Final Four game Saturday against Connecticut from Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will air nationally on TBS with Jim Nantz, Greg Anthony and Steve Kerr. However this year, the Turner family of networks will provide a simulcast of the game with a bit of a local flavor for the individual teams. The Gators’ “teamcast” will feature Steele along with Gators color anlayst Mark Wise and former Gator James Bates as sideline writer. It will air on TNT. The Huskies broadcast will feature Swin Cash as sideline reporter and will air on truTV.
Steele has been with the Magic since the very beginning as a radio broadcaster before moving into the TV booth. During that time, he also broadcasted Florida football games — notably for Sun Sports’ Breakfast with the Gators on Sunday mornings.
It appears Paul Kennedy, who typically hosts the pregame and postgame shows for FOX Sports Florida will slide into the play-by-play booth for Friday’s game against the Bobcats and Saturday’s game against the Timberwolves.
Paul Kennedy will handle the play-by-play duties for Fox Sports Florida while David Steele is in Dallas to announce the Final Four for TNT.

It should be a fun opportunity for Steele to get back to his Gator roots. And we are happy to share Steele’s magical voice with the Gator Nation as they play for a national championship. Magic fans will have a tough time deciding between the 6 p.m. broadcast of the Final Four and attending or watching the Magic’s game against their sister team, the Timberwolves, Saturday at 7 p.m.
