Predators leave Amway Center

The Orlando Predators will play their games at CFE Arena on UCF's campus, ending a tumultuous relationship with Amway Center and the Orlando Magic during the past three or four years, WFTV reports.

The Predators, the long-time Arena Football League powers, struggled to fill the Amway Center and met road block after road block since the team moved from the former Orlando Arena to the new Amway Center.

The structure of the city's deal with the Magic to build the Amway Center and split revenues largely kept the Predators out. The Magic were in charge of selling suites and would get the profit from the sale of those suites for all events at the Amway Center. This cut off a huge revenue source for the Predators.

The Predators ran into further trouble when the city sued the organization for trying to make money off advertising that was exclusively for the Magic. It certainly was not completely fair, but the Predators were left largely out of the negotiations for the Amway Center when the final agreement was built.

It also did not help that this is the resurrected Arena Football League and the Predators have struggled to win games since moving to Amway Center. The Predators have finished 11-25 the last two seasons, a record far from the organization's sterling history which includes two Arena Bowl titles.

Hopefully the Predators are able to find success at CFE Arena at UCF. It is unfortunate to see the organization leave Downtown Orlando. Particularly at a time that things are booming downtown with the Magic's entertainment complex coming in and the Orlando City Soccer stadium coming in too.

The economics do not make sense for the organization and, frankly, the city and the Magic did not do them any favors. this seemed like a matter of time.
