Magic still keeping ear to the ground in trade market

A lot of fans are on pins and needles waiting to see what happens before the Feb. 21 trade deadline. Orlando is stil in asset acquisition mode and are trying to figure out what pieces fit into the future and what they could possibly get on the market for the assets they already have.

Everyone knows that J.J. Redick is the big piece that could get moved. Initially it seemed like Orlando was certain to move him, but reports are that the new Magic management have been impressed with his play and his work ethic and they might see a spot for him on the team. The issue now is assessing his worth.

Orlando though may really be looking into many different pools when it comes to the trade deadline.

The Magic have been linked to Rudy Gay, although that may largely be in a facilitative role with the use of that large trade exception they have available to them.

Orlando though may be fielding offers or proposing offers involving other players on their roster. Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld reports interest in Arron Afflalo and Jameer Nelson appears to be growing. Kyler reports the Magic are hoping in their discussions to unload a big contract like Glen Davis or Hedo Turkoglu. Kyler makes it sound like things are still very exploratory, but the Magic are involved in many of these discussions.

There is still a month before the trade deadline, so any thing can still happen with the Magic and they have some avenues to explore.

Tomorrow, I will take a look at the draft a bit and what the Magic might do approaching that as an asset acquisition tool.
