Magic to honor Tracy McGrady on Opening Night

The Orlando Magic's 25th Anniversary season will kick off with a celebration of one of the franchise's all-time great players and perhaps its best scorer of all time.

A Legends' Night celebration of Tracy McGrady will kick off the Magic's home season Nov. 1 against the New Orleans Pelicans. McGrady will be honored at center court and then spend some time as a guest on teh Fox Sports Florida broadcast during the game. It will be the first of several Legends' Nights that will take place throughout the season.

McGrady is up first, just like his jersey number in four seasons with the Magic. He spoke with John Denton of

That is a special feeling right there for them wanting to bring me back to be the first guy back to open this season. It’s an honor. I played there for four years, and playing in front of that crowd every night and trying to entertain them, I think they always appreciated what I brought to the organization. It’s going to be fun to go back and see some of the familiar faces and be a part of a really special night.

The 6-foot-8 Auburndale native averaged 28.3 points per game in a Magic uniform. In the Playoffs, he averaged a staggering 32.0 points per game in three trips. Of course, his legacy with the Magic is tarnished somewhat by McGrady's ugly exit from the team and his failure to get out of the first round.

The failure to get out of the first round was hardly his fault as he was the one stuck holding the bag with Grant Hill continually injured. McGrady did more than his part.

He holds the Magic record for scoring average with a 32.1 points per game scoring average in 2003. He led the league in scoring twice in 2003 and 2004 and was a four-time All Star in a Magic uniform, three times being voted a starter. He also holds the Magic single game record for scoring with a 63-point performance against the Wizards.

It will be great to see McGrady back in town and to honor him for his contributions to the Magic.
