Magic New Yorkers back home with each other

The Magic got a little bit of homecooking these past few days.

E'Twaun Moore went back "home" to West Lafayette, Ind., to be honored at a Purdue basketball game. And four Magic players — Maurice Harkless, Kyle O'Quinn, Doron Lamb and Tobias Harris — are back home for tonight's game with the Knicks. Not back home in Orlando, back home in New York.

All four players grew up in various parts of the city and several grew up together on the basketball court, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel writes. Coming to the Magic and playing together is just continuing the growth and growing up that came with riding the bus to AAU practices and seeing, as Lamb called Harkless, "that tall guy in the backseat."

We've got so much in common just being from the same place," Harkless said. "In New York, everything's about basketball. People love basketball here. Everybody plays. It's a tough city to make it out of.

The four are certainly pretty close on the team and off the court. O'Quinn told the story at media day about how he and Harris would make sure the other was coming to the gym by looking for the other's car in the apartment building. They all are also hanging out a lot off the court.

That was, at least, before the season started. In the middle of the season it is tough to do more than just play basketball and do whatever is next on the schedule.

Wednesday afforded these guys a day off in their home city. Hopefully they got to enjoy some home cooking before Friday's meeting with the Knicks.
