All you have to do is buy NBA2K14, access the Unicaja Malaga team on the new group of international teams featured in the NBA video game and drop the 2005 first round pick onto a Magic roster. Finally you can see the 30-year-old Spaniard don his No. 17 Magic uniform and play for the Magic.
Of course, it is all make believe and not real.
The odds of Vazquez, now 30 years old and getting set to play his second season with Unicaja Malaga in the Spanish ACB League, joining the Magic seem very slim. His contract does expire at the end of this upcoming season, but he would not figure to be part of the Magic's plans as the Magic are now rebuilding rather than looking for that last piece to get them over the top.
Vazquez may have missed the NBA boat.
Last year, Vazquez averaged 6.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in 17.3 minutes per game and 32 appearances. The talent is there that made him the 11th overall pick eight years ago. But the NBA seems far away.
NBA2K seems as close as he will get — although he also played for Regal Barcelona against NBA teams a few seasons ago when the league staged exhibition games and training camps in Spain. 2K Sports is preparing to introduce several European teams to this year's edition of the game including Vazquez's Unicaja team, Magic Basketball Online writer Adam Papageorgiou's beloved Olympiakos, Russian superpower CSKA Moscow and Israeli league power Maccabi Tel Aviv. Should add a new dimension to the game.
I guess we will have to just be OK with the virtual Vazquez making the leap across the pond. As Evan Dunlap of Orlando Pinstriped Post notes: "It's not real life, but it's better than nothing, I suppose."
