Orlando Sentinel: Amway Center entertainment complex negotiations slow

Mark Schlueb of the Orlando Sentinel reports negotiations has slowed between the Magic and the city of Orlando over the proposed entertainment complex to be built across the street from Amway Center at the current location of the South Street parking garage and Orlando Police headquarters.

The Magic, through a subsidiary corporation, had received an exclusive option to purchase the property in 2011 and added the police station property in 2012. Schlueb reports and has reported that the Magic hope to build an office tower, an additional parking lot and an entertainment district that would include restaurants and a hotel to complement the Amway Center.

It was always part of the plan to build an entertainment district in the same mode that Los Angeles surrounded Staples Center with L.A. Live or Memphis surrounded FedExForum with Beale Street.

The development has not hit many snags, but the team has been deliberate in its presentation of this idea to the city and moving forward. This news suggests that, while the process continues and will likely get done (at least according to Schlueb), this whole thing is not a slam dunk to get done any time soon.

Negotiations continue however. We will see if and when this dream becomes a reality.
