43 Days to Tip Off: Mikan never played in Orlando

Believe it or not, we are less than one month away from the first Magic preseason game. Orlando will open training camp on October 1 and open the preseason in Mexico City against New Orleans on October 7. So how will we get ready? By counting down to the beginning of the season on November 2 against Denver. Let's continue:

In 1953, the Lakers won the championship behind the first true big man in NBA history.

With his, geek-friendly glasses and his 6-foot-10 height, he reaked havoc on the NBA on his way to five NBA championship. When we talk about the Lakers pantheon of centers, it must always start with Mikan. Mikan actually never played in Los Angeles. He won all his titles with the Minneapolis Lakers and helped put the NBA really on the map.

For his career, Mikan averaged 23.1 points per game and grabbed 13.4 rebounds per game (which were not tracked in the early part of his career). Mikan was a revolutionary… and a Laker we can actually like.

I don't think he ever played in Orlando…
