28 Days to Tip Off: An honest to goodness basketball game

Believe it or not, we are about a month away from Opening Night. Orlando opened training camp on October 1 and open the preseason in Mexico City against New Orleans on Saturday. So how will we get ready? By counting down to the beginning of the season on November 2 against Denver. Let's continue:

Today in Istanbul, Turkey, the NBA season had its soft opening. The Boston Celtics took on Fenerbache Ulker earlier Friday:

The Celtics lost 97-91 and lookedl ike a team playing its first preseason game. There were a lot of turnovers and little offensive fluidity. At the end of the game, the Celtics had their bench players in as the game hung in the balance. Fenerbache looked like a team that is in the midst of its early season preparations and a little bit more together.

The result matters little.

What mattered, for Celtics fans at least, is Jeff Green looked really good in his first game since open heart surgery. Rajon Rondo also played pretty well and very controlled. The Celtics will be a good team.

Just not today. Not in the first preseason game. The defensive rotations were a bit sloppy, but that is to be expected in the first preseason game of the year.

And away we go…
