What They’re Saying: Magic vs. Nuggets 1/13

Magic (26-12) vs. Nuggets (24-14)
Time/TV: 9 p.m./Sun Sports, NBATV
Key Matchup: Jameer Nelson (11.9 PPG, 5.0 APG) vs. Chauncey Billups (17.7 PPG, 5.7 APG)

-On the Amway Center front, the building’s LED screen facing I-4 could get shot down by the Florida Department of Transportation, Mark Schlueb of The Orlando Sentinel writes.

-The Magic used a come-from-behind victory and Dwight Howard’s best game of the year to run away from the Kings last night in Sacramento.

-Otis Smith tells Brian Schmitz of The Orlando Sentinel that he has no plans to make any trades before the February trade deadline unless a major injury occurs. That means Brandon Bass and Marcin Gortat are likely to be in a Magic uniform through the end of the season.

-Benjamin Hochman of the Denver Post writes about JR Smith and his shooting struggles. Since hitting 10 3-pointers against Atlanta on Dec. 23, Smith is an icy 11 for 50. Smith needs to rediscover his shooting touch to say the least.

-I analyzed Dwight Howard’s huge night last night against the Kings and pointed out one area that Howard’s offensive game HAS improved.

-Ben Q Rock of Orlando Pinstriped Post gives credit to Howard’s supporting cast for stepping up when the team needed them to. It was an uncharacteristically poor shooting night for some of Orlando’s top players and players like Mickael Pietrus, Ryan Anderson and Jason Williams helped pace the Magic to victory.

-John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com recounts a very funny story from JJ Redick that describes just how good Orlando’s fourth quarter defense really was.

-Stan Van Gundy tells John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com that he is still trying to figure out why Orlando’s normal starting lineup is just 5-5 in 10 appearances together.
