Most of Orlando’s roster never experienced March Madness

While you’re watching the NCAA Tournament and weighing the NBA prospects of the players you’re watching, keep this in mind: Only three current Magic players went to school at a BCS conference school, or what you’d call a “big-name” school. JJ Redick (Duke), Tony Battie (Texas Tech) and Tyronn Lue (Nebraska) were the only players that went to a well-known institution. Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph’s) was no slouch, as his team went undefeated his senior year and went deep into the tournament. Five Orlando players didn’t go to college – Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu, Marcin Gortat and Mickael Pietrus. The rest of the squad went to pretty obscure schools: Rafer Alston (Cal State), Anthony Johnson (College of Charleston), Courtney Lee (Western Kentucky), and Jeremy Richardson (Delta State). There really is no point to this post, other than this: enjoy the players you’re watching during March Madness, because you’ll never see 99 percent of them again. And don’t knock on players just because they went to a smaller school.
