As part of a four-team deal that will ultimately send Shawn Marion to the Dallas Mavericks and Hedo Turkoglu to the Toronto Raptors, the Magic have received a trade exception valued between $8 and $9 million from the Raptors. The news comes from Yahoo! sports. How valuable is a trade exception? Well, the Magic might not have Ryan Anderson without it. The Magic sent their trade exception – which was acquired in a sign-and-trade deal that sent Keyon Dooling to the Nets last summer – to acquire Anderson. Without that exception, the Magic might’ve had a little bit more trouble making the contracts work and bringing in Anderson. The trade exception can give the Magic some flexibility in trades going forward. It can’t be paired with other players, but it can be used for throw-in players and to gain some wiggle room in negotations, as it did in the Vince Carter deal.
