Dwight Howard’s dunk contest plans: Dr. J Tribute

Dwight Howard is planning a tribute to one of the original dunkers: Julius Erving. Rumblings have surfaced that Dwight will dunk from the free-throw line, like Dr. J did in the 1976 ABA dunk contest. Or it could be the “rock the baby” dunk, where he cradles the ball and rocks it back and forth before slamming it home. While I don’t know exactly what the “Dr. J Tribute” will entail, I’d imagine it will involve some type of props or creative overgarment, knowing Dwight. We could be seeing some type of hair-do or facial hair, but the most likely scenario is an old ABA jersey. Also, this should be the year that we’ll finally see the Kiss the Rim dunk. This info comes from a source close to Howard – it could be wrong. Either way, Dwight has brought the dunk contest back to relevancy, and this should be another entertaining contest. The festivities begin tonight at 8:30 p.m. on TNT. Rashard Lewis will be in the 3-point contest earlier in the night. The dunk contest should start about 10 p.m. Dr. J’s Rock the baby:
